Rural Indian milieu is very popular with artists, for its provides them with countless themes besides allowing them to play with vivid colours. The village folk's costumes, jewellery, festivities and even common activities have attracted them.

This painting reinforces the bond that humans and animals share. The woman, dressed in a simple saree, the end of which is casually draped around her upper body, looks simple and attractive. She wears metallic bracelets and armlets and a 'hasli' around her neck. Her head ornament and the nose ring add to the attraction of her face. The large, clear eyes exude innocence; the nose shapely and the lips thick and unsmiling. A cloth is thrown over her shoulder on which her pet monkey sits importantly. It clings to her head and its fidgety movements have let curls escape from her well groomed hair. They look extremely comfortable together.

The wash look subdues the already sober shades. The beige and brown background creates an air of mystery around the ethereal looking duo.
