Dhakai is the tradition of weaving of the erstwhile undivided Bengal. Now this tradition is practiced in both Bengal and Dhaka from which it borrows its name. Originally Dhakais were woven in very thin Muslin, which was said to have passed through a finger ring. Slowly it began to be adapted to cottons also.
This lavender sari comes in a mix of cotton and silk and has a very fine and light texture. It has a double shade of lavender and black. The body consists of small floral prints in between zig-zag lines. The border has the usual Dhakai self-design woven floral and creeper pattern.
The Pallav has large and bold leaf prints over it making the sari look very imposing.
