Patanjali is one of the greatest saints and seers the world has ever known. Being one of the 18 Siddhas (adepts) as per the Tamil Siddhar tradition, his contribution towards the spiritual growth of people is unmatched. In the Yogic culture, he is known as the father of Yoga. Though, his legacy is not just limited to spirituality. He was an equally brilliant grammarian, and musician, and had vast knowledge of medicines. He has authored many texts on Yoga, grammar, medicines, etc, out of which Yoga Sutras and Mahabhasya are some of the most profound texts available to mankind.

Patanjali was at par with the greatest of Yogis. Seeing that Yoga was losing its authenticity, Patanjali compiled Yoga Sutras, which capture the very essence of Yoga, elaborating a very scientific method of attaining liberation. Many believed that Patanjali was an incarnation of Sheshnag, hence he is often depicted as half human and half snake.

This beautifully crafted bronze statue illustrates Patanjali in the same traditional way, with his upper body being that of a human, and his lower body being enveloped in the thick folds of a seven-headed serpent. The serpent rises above and forms a shade upon the great sage, adding to the mystical aspect of the statue. The four-armed Patanjali is shown with folded hands symbolising great devotion and blessings. The delicate carvings along with bright colours add to the grandeur of the divine statue. Keeping this statue will serve as a firm reminder of the possibility that Patanjali realised, the possibility of the beyond.
