This image, despite its delicate and radiant beauty, soft lines and graceful majesty, seems to be withdrawn from the phenomenal world; it seems cool and inaccessible, the eye-lids are half-closed, suggesting introspection. It is as though the Buddha is not looking at anything in the physical world but experiencing a vision by deep meditation. Here Buddha is seated in meditative posture, with the soles of his feet turned upwards. His right hand is raised in a mode of blessing and the other lies on his lap with the palm facing up. He wears the monastic robe with the right shoulder and breast bare. The hair lies knotted on the top with a visible usnisa. The long earlobes are part of the major lakshanas of a mahapurusha.
This image of Buddha, expressing serene quiescence, is the expression of divine beauty.
