Baluchari saris also come from the land of Bengal. These are the traditional saris in which the story of Ramayana and Mahabharata are told in a woven form. These come in very light silks but are exquisitely woven. The weaves are very rich and the features of the characters are woven to perfection.

This Baluchari sari comes in peacock blue color. The color of the sari gives sheen to the texture of the sari. The plain body of the sari has dancing peacock butis all over the body. The border is yet more beautiful. It is woven on both sides of the sari and depicts the theme of the "Rasalila" or the romance between Radha and Krishna in a beautiful forest. On the branches of the trees are beautifully woven peacocks.

The pallav of the sari is woven entirely in zari and makes a great contrast with the overall color of the sari. There are varying themes from Krishna's life that find place on the pallav. He is shown as 'Makhan Chor' stealing curd and butter along with his friends, depicting his childhood. Yet again he is shown as 'Muralidhar' or the flute-player with his consort Radha. The eternal love between Radha and Krishna forms the main theme of the sari. The wonderful aspect of the sari is the delicateness with which the features are brought about.

A must buy for those who attend weddings and other traditional occasions.
