When a physician is required to attend to an infant or a child, it is the most difficult task for him because the child cannot express nor point out what is ailing him nor refer to the painful organ of body. Even for the young mother it is a dilemma due to lack of experience and knowledge. All such problems combine together to treat a child quickly.

Being fully aware of the problems faced by a mother, who is a primipara, I have tried to dwell upon and explain the symptoms visibly present in a newborn baby, initial steps to be taken to restore normalcy, what medicines are required to be kept at home to meet routine and emergency infantile health problems, safeguards to be taken in protecting the child from climatic changes, child care guidelines and in which situations medical help is required.
