I am deeply thoughtful about the enigmatic existence of erotic art and Sculpture in the Hindu religious edifices, which had glorified austerity and re-enunciation. My interest in the said subject is rightly the brain child of my revered teacher late Dr. Bishnu Prasad Panda. But later on this project has perfectly shaped by my esteemed Ph.D supervisor Dr. Ramakanta Bhuyan. The said subject tempted me for a long five years of restless effort that resulted in the form of my doctoral thesis presented to the Berhampur University in the Year 2022. Though the topic is vast and complex in its nature to carry out the study, but still I have been able to reveal few untold secrets behind the panacea. For an understanding of its many facets and for the formulation of actual concepts, I have adopted an interdisciplinary approach. Because mere socio-religious approach is not enough to investigate the issue of erotic temple art and Sculpture in India as well as Odisha. Particularly, I have carried out my research work on this complex phenomenon through various explanations including Anthropological, Religious, Sociological, and art history etc. the investigation has been conducted with the help of various views including: the Tantrasastra, the Puranas, the Silpa Canons, the Kamasutra, and Sanskrit Kavyas, Dramas. Several hypotheses were taken into consideration seriously against empirical evidence of erotic representation on the temple stone walls. I have gained a lot of ideas from these experts that gave me an impetus zeal and scholastic shaping to my work.
