Foreword Vedic, Upanisadic, Vedantic, Dharmasastric, Brahmasutra and other texts no doubt register a sort of acquaintance to an average citizen of India; but only a few among them seem to possess any precise knowledge regarding the exact attributes of the texts and the nature of their inter-relationship. This speaks of a kind of apparent indifference regarding the texts notwithstanding, also suggests their in-built spirit of accommodation which by and large is presumed to be associated with the so-called Hindu socio-ritual order. When such flexibility constitutes a part of the value system of any given culture, it is likely to reflect an approach that emerged out of centuries of pluri-cultural coexistence. As a way of life, therefore, it manifests resilience.
