As if Vaikuntha (the abode of Vishnu) has been evoked on canvas, this watercolor painting in the idiom of Kangra paintings, is enlivened by the presence of Sri (Lakshmi) and Sri Hari (Vishnu), immersed in each other’s heavenly company. Chaturbhuja (four-armed) Vishnu is adorned in the manner of a king, in his Pitambara (yellow garments and ornaments), while Lakshmi appears to be the home of feminine virtues. Dressed in a lovely orange and green, Vishnupriya (beloved of Vishnu) goddess Lakshmi gazes at Lord Vishnu coyly, holding her chunri gently while carrying a fan in her hand.

The divine duo sits on a beautiful lotus, with a large pink bolster and a Chattra (royal umbrella) shading them. Golden utensils and a pot of plenty (a symbol of auspiciousness and wealth) are placed in the foreground of the painting to add a sense of sacredness to the scene. The background of this watercolor painting is muted peach, with trees blooming on both sides.

Gaurav Rajput has taken the classic Rajput Kangra paintings as his muse and brought their meticulous lines and graceful colors to life with his work. Presenting a delicate mood of Vishnu with his beloved goddess Lakshmi, the artwork emanates an aesthetic allure that is characteristic of traditional Kangra miniatures.
