Since Mathematics is none other than the logic, wherever and whenever Mathematical sciences advance, the growth of Physical sciences follows. This is a fact established by history. In order to assess the state of scientific development of any country at a given point of time, generally it may be adequate to study the state of mathematics of the time. We can infer the state of other sciences from that.
The impressive heights of ancient Indian Mathematics can be estimated by having a Look at the surprising mathematical formulae, rediscovered by Sri Bharathi Krishna Teertha Swamiji (1884-1960). These sixteen formulae along with a set of thirteen sub formulae are offering astonishingly simple short cuts to complicated and lengthy problems of mathematics in the field of arithmetic, algebra , and geometrical expressions.
Sri Bharati Krishnaji , it is said, had a more comprehensive structure of the subject in his mind but unfortunately a major portion was lost and only these 16 formulae, which constitute only a preliminary party of the subject, are available to us today. Sri Bharati Krishnaji said that he derived these formulae from Sthapatyaveda which is the Upaveda of Atharvana Veda.
Advanced countries took Vedic Mathematics seriously and they realized that they had something special and some of the schools began to teach the Vedic system with notable success. Today Vedic mathematics is taught widely in schools in India and a great deal of research is being done in this field.
The Institute of Scientific research on Vedas (I-SERVE) is striving hard to bring out the technical details of the sciences hidden in the Vedic and post Vedic literature. As a part of its spectrum of projects, undertaken specially to ignite the minds of youth, the institute is working on Vedic Mathematics also. While research is going on to explore the theoretical backgrounds of Vedic Mathematics, including its three dimensional astronomical calculations, I-SERVE, in accordance to its policies, decided to brighten the young students with awareness and training programmes, train the teachers in Vedic Mathematics and publish simpler books for easy follow up of the calculations, equations, expressions etc. I-SERVE is planning to organise special classes on Vedic Mathematics in different schools & colleges in a phased manner, so that the participant students will surely acquire the knowledge with an excitement to learn more in the Vedic mathematics and this will help for a number of competitive examinations like IIT,JEE, AIEEE, GRE, GMA T, etc., They also gain creative approach to objective methods and solutions.
The present compilation in your hands is only an introduction to the subject and I-SERVE is planning to bring out more elaborate works on this subject, in near future.
We are sure that the students / parents/ teachers/ of secondary educational institutions will rise to the occasion and reap the benefits of Vedic Mathematics in full
Even though we have prepared more comprehensive volumes on Vedic Arithmetic, Vedic Algebra and Vedic Geometry, with explanations, examples, exercises, answers, points to be remembered etc., we are bringing out the second edition of this introductory booklet on Vedic Mathematics, since it is serving the purpose of introducing the subject to the students in a perfect way.
After the release of first edition, the students in the secondary schools have shown keen interest in solving the Mathematical problems through this ancient mathematics and I-SERVE is happy that the students in some schools of Hyderabad got benefit. With the release of this second edition it is I-SERVE's vision that many students across the country will get motivated and inspired to learn more and more and get benefited in their careers and competitive exams.
The Basis: The ancient Indian civilization was believed to be very advanced and very scientific in development. While continuing the quest for knowledge in this modem scientific world, today's man has also started developing interest in exploring the sciences hidden in Vedic and Post Vedic literature, as they are believed to be more nature friendly and eco- friendly. But understanding these scriptures is not that easy, as the present Sanskrit scholars do not know the technical terminology used in those times. Preparing lexicons of ancient scientific terms would surely help us to understand and to unravel these scientific secrets.
The Motivation: Some believe Vedas are just a fig of creative imagination. Many however, do believe that they have a scientific basis. The Nobel Laureate, Mr. S chrod inger, has stated that he was inspired by the study of Upanishads and was guided in his quest by the theories mentioned there in. Sir. Jagadish Chandra Bose, attributes his thesis on plants as living things to the study of Vedas. There are many such instances we can name. The fact is that we are all sitting on top of a bounty of knowledge, a treasure trove of scientific excellence, unaware and without a care. The time is running out. It is time to unveil the secrets, unravel the mystery and enjoy the fruits of scientific wonders and• extract the nectar that the nature has stored for us and thus benefit the entire Human race.
The Direction: For accomplishing the above objective, we have to adopt the process described below - * Preparing a list of the ancient scriptures available, locating them and collecting them. * Categorizing the scriptures collected and studies them. * Deciphering them from their original language and summarize in English or Telugu. * Subjecting their content and meaning to modem scientific research and comparative study. * Preparing lexicons containing the technical words used in the scriptures, with their relevant meaning in the modem context.
The Genesis: For achieving this unenviable task, I-SERVE (The Institute of Scientific Research on Vedas), a Charitable Trust with its head quarters at Hyderabad is created on the advice and divine command of His Holiness Parama Pujya Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji under the Chairmanship of Sri Kuppa Venkata Krishna Murthy, the vidyadhikari of Avadhoota Datta Peetham.
The I-SERVE is directed by a Guiding Committee, Advisory Committee and Honorary Professors Committee consisting of eminent men, who have distinguished themselves in various fields which are of relevance and interest to I-SERVE.
The Objectives : 1. If the above steps are fully implemented, many new theories and new branches of sciences may emerge. 2. With the emergence of this non hazardous and pollution free science, there is ample scope for developing suitable scientific equipment to produce better results at a lesser cost.
