FAQs

Q1. What are the 5 key books of Islam?

The five key books in Islam are considered holy and have been recommended by Allah and the various Prophets to Muslims. The foremost important holy book is the Quran which is considered the revelation of Allah to Prophet Muhammad. It describes the codes and laws that Allah ordained for human society. Three revealed books that came before the Quran are the Twarat or Torah, the Zabur (Psalms) revealed to David (Dawud), and the Injeel (the Gospel revealed to Jesus). The other set of important books is the Scrolls of Abraham and the Scrolls of Moses.

Q2. Which is the first book on the history of Islam?

The earliest surviving Islamic biography is Ibn Ishaq's Sirat Rasul Allah, written in the 8th century, but known only from later quotes and recensions (9th–10th centuries). The "science of hadith" is the process to evaluate hadith. The classification of Hadith into Sahih (sound), Hasan (good), and Da'if (weak) was firmly established by Ali ibn al-Madini (161–234 AH). Later, al-Madini's student Muhammad al-Bukhari (810–870) authored a collection that he believed contained only Sahih hadith, which is now known as the Sahih Bukhari. Al-Bukhari's historical methods of testing hadiths and islands are seen as the beginning of the method of citation and a precursor to the scientific method.

Q3. Why are books important in Islam?

The holy books guide Muslims on how to live as Allah would want. They also allow Muslims to better understand Allah. The Prophet of Islam has said:

"Search for knowledge is the duty of every Muslim. Allah likes the seekers of knowledge."

‘Read and acquire knowledge. Your knowledge will dissipate if you stop reading.’

“Two types of persons are rewarded- First the learned scholar and then he who is busy acquiring knowledge."

"When a child is taken to the school, and the teacher instructs him to say Bismillah (In the name of Allah Almighty), Allah will spare the child’s parents from the fire of Hell!"

Q4. What do Muslims believe about books?

Belief in the Books of God: Muslims believe that God revealed holy books or scriptures to other prophets who came before Muhammad. These books include the Quran (given to Muhammad), the Torah (given to Moses), the Gospel (given to Jesus), the Psalms (given to David), and the Scrolls (given to Abraham).

In Surah Ibrahim Allah Subhan wa tala says: “A Book We have sent down to you so that you may bring forth mankind from the darkness into the light”. We need guidance in every aspect of our life and the best guidance we can find is in the Quran. It is a manual for our everyday life.
