Preface
This book is for those who want to follow the good path and to help others in dealing with their problems with a certain degree of success. Islam as a religion, a code of life and iman connects Muslims to God through different dimensions of faith. Chapter one deals with Islam and iman.
The quest for understanding the Quran is explained in chapter two by quoting Quranic verses. In simple words, we can say it is the messages which the Quran conveys to us and how these are important to the counsellor for assessing iman (faith) of the counselee.
A majority of Muslims' behaviour is found to be essentially governed by Allah's guidance. However, often we do not know on a conscious level what are those aspects of our life in which Allah has given guidance to us. It is explained in chapter three. We can understand various aspects of behaviour through Quranic verses. A counsellor who wants to focus on Islamic counselling can support his viewpoint before the counselee simply by advising him that these aspects are ordained by Allah in the Quran. This guidance is necessary in the initial phase of counselling sessions.
Islamic counselling interventions, namely, prayer, remembrance of Allah, Quranic meditation and strengthening of taqwa are described in chapter four of this book. Prayer as an intervention strategy has been well supported in a number of empirical studies in the past. However, the other three strategies suggested in this chapter are yet to be tested.
Chapter five focuses on the Quranic recitation and therapy, which covers the treatment of various physical, psychological and behavioural problems through reading of the Quranic verses a prescribed number of times. The significance of Quranic recitation is emphasised in this chapter.
In the last chapter, the author makes Islamic counselling easier, provided the counsellor follows the path of Islam. Islamic counselling is integrated with three aspects of Islam, namely, aqidah, ibadah, and akhlaq. These have been verified in previous researches in the case of Muslim counsellors. My effort is to achieve various goals or aims of Islamic counselling. Keeping this in view, fifteen concepts related to the word 'ISLAM' which may be linked with counselling has been suggested in chapter six. These concepts are originally in Arabic and Urdu languages.
Overall, this book covers the holistic aspects of Quranic guidance, Quranic therapy and Islamic counselling. This book provides a deep understanding of Islam and the Quran as well as its application in counselling. After reading this book, you will realise what is really important in our lives.
