21" Buddha Under the Bodhi Tree In Brass | Handmade | Made In India

$985

Under the Bodhi tree sat the enlightened one; yet, he was not enlightened just then. After lifetimes of suffering and years of austerities in this one, all it took was a minimal quantum of time under its nourishing shade. The murti that you see on this page captures the enlightenment of the Buddha and the glamour of the Bodhi tree.

A distinct, bitone palette. The seated figure preoccupies about a third of the height of the composition. It is a deep gold colour, which comes from the pure brass medium. From the lotus-petal plinth beneath Him to the fruit-filled canopy teeming with life above, it is a vivid emerald. Hints of black and brass gold in these sections bring out the vividness of the green.

An ensemble such as this one would be a striking addition to your home or office space.

A Moment of Enlightenment

This exquisite brass statue captures the pivotal moment of Siddhartha Gautama's enlightenment, the transformation that would forever change him into the Buddha, the Awakened One. Depicted beneath the sheltering branches of the Bodhi tree, this handcrafted piece evokes a sense of serenity and profound wisdom, a testament to the journey from suffering to liberation. The statue reflects a timeless scene of quiet contemplation and spiritual awakening.

The Symbolism of the Bodhi Tree

The Bodhi tree, a sacred fig (Ficus religiosa), holds immense significance in Buddhism. It was under this very tree in Bodh Gaya, India, that Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment after years of intense meditation. The tree, therefore, represents the potential for awakening inherent within all beings. In Buddhist art, the Bodhi tree is not merely a botanical element but a powerful symbol of enlightenment, wisdom, and the interconnectedness of all things. This piece incorporates the Bodhi tree in impressive detail, portraying the leaves, branches, and even birds perched among the foliage. This level of care and skill in crafting the tree contributes significantly to the overall effect of the sculpture.

Handcrafted Detail & Artistic Integrity

Crafted in India using traditional methods, this brass statue embodies the skill and artistry passed down through generations. The attention to detail is evident in the serene expression on the Buddha's face, the graceful folds of his robes, and the intricate patterns adorning the base. The use of brass lends a warm, golden hue to the statue, enhancing its visual appeal and conveying a sense of timelessness. This careful construction and thoughtful design creates a piece that will be treasured for generations.

The Mudra of Reassurance

The Buddha is depicted in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection. The raised right hand, with the palm facing outwards, signifies fearlessness and the dispelling of fear in others. This mudra is a reminder of the Buddha's teachings on overcoming suffering and finding inner peace. This iconic hand position is universally recognized as a sign of goodwill and peace, further enhancing the sculpture's meaning and appeal. This statue is more than just a decorative object; it is a representation of the Buddha's teachings and a reminder of the potential for enlightenment within us all. It serves as an inspiring addition to any home or meditation space, a visual aid to contemplation and a tangible connection to the ancient wisdom of Buddhism.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
