24" Peacock Lamp and Bells Supported by Elephant Heads with a Series of Puja Diyas In Brass | Handmade | Made In India

$590

See It In Your Home

From the point of view of sculpture, the traditional Indian lamp is a revered work of art. They are found in the most devoted Indian homes for their auspiciousness and the fact that, when all the dias are lit in unison, they are a sight to behold. The traditional Indian lamp that you see on this page stands out even amongst the most exquisite of traditional Indian lamps.

The first thing that strikes the viewer is the abundance of faunal motifs in the work. For legs, this lamp has three elephants with long trunks (Gajalakshmi). Dangling in the spaces between each pair is a miniature bell. Above their heads an ornately carved stem, surrounded by three peacocks with just head and neck.

Immediately above is the five-wick tray of continuous lamps. At the zenith is a peacock with the loveliest plumage, its every detail having been carved with the greatest care by the sculptor. Note the circlet of discrete dias at the very base of the composition.

A Symphony of Light and Sound

This handcrafted brass sculpture is more than just a ritual object; it's a testament to the enduring artistry and rich symbolism of Indian culture. The warm glow of diya flames combines with the gentle tinkling of bells to create an atmosphere of serenity and devotion, perfect for puja or any space where a touch of sacred beauty is desired. The entire structure is crafted from solid brass, a metal valued for its durability and resonant properties. Each element is carefully shaped and finished by skilled artisans, lending a unique character and timeless appeal to the piece.

Guardians and Messengers

The base of the lamp is supported by intricately detailed elephant heads. In Hindu mythology, the elephant-headed god Ganesha is revered as the remover of obstacles, the lord of beginnings, and the patron of arts and sciences. His presence here signifies auspiciousness, wisdom, and the clearing of any impediments to spiritual progress. The elephant, known for its strength, memory, and intelligence, further reinforces the notion of stability and steadfastness. Suspended below the elephant heads are a series of delicate bells. These bells aren't merely decorative; their sound is considered sacred. The ringing of bells during puja is believed to purify the surrounding environment, dispelling negative energies and inviting the divine. The vibrations produced by the bells are thought to have a positive effect on the mind and body, promoting peace and concentration.

The Majestic Bird

Crowning the lamp is a beautifully sculpted peacock, a bird deeply embedded in Indian lore. The peacock is often associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and beauty. Its vibrant plumage symbolizes splendor, royalty, and immortality. In some traditions, the peacock is believed to possess the ability to absorb poisons and transform them into nectar, representing the triumph of good over evil. Its presence on this lamp serves as a reminder of beauty, grace, and the transformative power of devotion. The peacock stands above a wide, shallow bowl designed to hold oil and wicks for the diyas. The arrangement invites light to illuminate a space, both physically and spiritually. It represents the illumination of knowledge, the dispelling of darkness, and the igniting of the inner flame of wisdom. This exquisite sculpture is a striking visual representation of faith and tradition, making it a unique and meaningful addition to any home or sacred space. Its beauty extends beyond its aesthetic appeal, serving as a constant reminder of the interconnectedness of art, culture, and spirituality.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
