In the auspicious collection of the Thousand Names of Ganesha (Ganesha Sahasranama), he is called 'Divyastranam Prayogvid', meaning he is an expert in the use of sacred weapons. Here Ganapati holds in his hands the following weapons: 1). Trishula (Trident): This represents Ganesha's three powers, by which he makes way through the mind's vast complexities. These are love, wisdom and action. 2). Mahaparashu (Large Axe): The Great Axe frightens off demons and banishes unwanted thoughts of those who wish to harm his devotees. 3). Bow and Arrow: Asks us to shoot our thoughts with one pointed devotion at the feet of Lord Ganesha.
