Auspicious Five Wick Puja Lamp from Kerala

$65

This Nila Vilakku has a straightforward design of an 8-inch stem attached to a five-wick oil basin, looking like a bloomed lotus. A disc-shaped base is attached to the branch, an apparatus for collecting excess oil dripping from the wicks. There is a lotus bud-like crown at the center of the oil basin, very typical for these kinds of Nila Vilakkus, popularly known as Kathakali Vilakkus due to their use in the traditional lighting during the Kathakali ritual theatre performance.

A Beacon of Blessings

This stunning bronze sculpture invites the radiant blessings of light into your sacred space. Standing at 8.0 inches tall with a 4.0 x 4.0 inch footprint, it is meticulously crafted to embody both functionality and deep spiritual significance. Its elegant design makes it a beautiful and functional addition to your rituals and prayers. The lamp is designed to hold five wicks, each representing one of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space) that compose the universe. The act of lighting these wicks symbolizes the dispelling of darkness and ignorance, and the awakening of inner wisdom and knowledge. Each flame burning brightly represents the individual soul striving for enlightenment and union with the divine.

Deep Roots in Tradition

The creation of lamps like these is steeped in tradition. The bronze medium lends a timeless quality, ensuring it can be treasured for generations, becoming a part of your family’s spiritual heritage. In various Hindu traditions, light is a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. The act of lighting a lamp is often associated with the presence of deities, particularly Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts. The warm glow of the lamp is believed to invite their blessings into the home, fostering an environment of abundance, harmony, and learning.

Mythological Significance

Stories abound throughout Hindu mythology that emphasize the importance of light. In one popular tale, Lord Hanuman, the epitome of devotion and strength, used his immense power to carry the sun across the sky, dispelling darkness and bringing light to the world. Similarly, in the festival of Diwali, lights are lit to celebrate the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana, the demon king who represents ignorance and darkness. This five-wick lamp serves as a constant reminder of the triumph of good over evil, and the power of knowledge and enlightenment to guide us on our spiritual journey. Place it in your puja room, meditation space, or any area where you wish to invoke a sense of serenity and auspiciousness. Its golden hue will radiate warmth, filling the space with an atmosphere of peace and devotion.
