Author and academician Pratibha Ray has significantly influenced Indian literature, notably those written in the Odia language. On January 21, 1943, she was born in Alabol, Balikuda, in the Indian state of Odisha's Cuttack region.
Since beginning her writing career in the 1970s, Ray has published numerous works in Odia, including novels, short tales, poetry, and essays. Her best-known work is "Yajnaseni," a reworking of the Mahabharata from Draupadi's point of view that has received critical accolades for her feminism and insightfulness.
Ray has a distinguished academic career in addition to her writing activity. She holds a PhD in education and has held a number of leadership roles in Indian educational institutions, including that of principal of the Government Women's College in Bhubaneswar.
For her contributions to literature, Ray has won numerous honours and prizes, including the highest literary award in India, the Jnanpith Award, which she earned in 2011. Additionally, she has received praise for her work as a social activist, particularly for promoting the rights of women and underrepresented groups.
