Book Description
About the Book
The ancient races of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab have deep historical roots, tracing back to the early civilizations of the Indian subcontinent. Balochistan was home to the Mehrgarh civilization (7000-2500 BCE), one of the earliest farming communities. The region later saw the migration of Iranian and Dravidian groups. Sindh, known for the Indus Valley Civilization (2600-1900 BCE), was inhabited by a mix of Proto-Dravidian and other indigenous peoples. The Aryans arrived around 1500 BCE, influencing the region's language and culture. Punjab, meaning "land of five rivers," was a major centre of Vedic civilization. It was inhabited by early Indo-Aryan tribes such as the Bharatas, Purus, and Yadavas. Later, Scythians, Greeks, and Kushans settled in these areas, adding to their ethnic diversity. The region also saw influences from Persians and Arabs in later centuries. Over millennia, these races contributed to the cultural and linguistic fabric of South Asia.

Introduction
This little book has its origin in the problems raised in the chapter entitled Disposal of the Dead at Harappa and published as an appendix to The Aboriginal Races of India (1931). It may also be considered a sequel to the publication of the report on the Human Skeletal Remains from Harappa (1931) by the Anthropological Survey of India. Fresh from the University the author had the opportunity of working at Harappa for one full season (1930-31) and then at Mohenjodaro for about two months towards the fall of 1931. This early association with 'solid facts', the basis of prehistory according to Gordon Childe, made an ever-lasting impression upon the author. The retrenchment policy of the then Government of India cut short his archaeological career in the midst of the Mohenjodaro excavations but being in an allied discipline, his interest did not wear out.
