The articles included in this volume cover many areas such as Metaphor in Malayalam and Bangla, Feminism, Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore in Kerala, Macbeth in Bengali and Malayali culture, Folklore, Historical dramas in Bengali literature, Bengali migrants in Kerala and Fishermen in Bangla and Malayalam novels.
Kakali Mukherjee cleverly analysed the linguistic similarities between Indo-Aryan languages and the two Non-Aryan entities namely Dravidian and Austro-Asiatic. According to her, Aryan invasions or migration shaped the present India as a 'linguistic area' where the Austro Asiatic, Dravidian and Indo-Aryan language families have converged by mutual sharing among themselves. Aditi Ghosh, a resident of the city, in her paper tried to show how the multilingual nature of Kolkata affects the language attitudes of the speakers of minority languages. The paper on Bengali grammatical tradition by Anita Bandyopadhyay gives a chronological account of early grammars of Bengali language.
G. K. Panikkar, in his paper gives a detailed analysis of the pronunciation of Malayalam by the Bengali speakers working in Kerala. This paper will be of help for future pedagogical research.
