This autobiography in the form of reminiscences was dictated by the author to his grandson, Upendar Nath (now Dr. Upendar Nath, M.B.B.S., L.D.S., R.C.S., Hyderabad-A.P.) in the nineteen-thirties. The manuscript was completed at Lahore about 1942. The author, Rai Bahadur Mul Raj died at Lahore (West Pakistan) on 2nd June, 1945. Soon after his death, the law and order situation in the Punjab began to deteriorate. The holocaust which preceded and followed the Partition of the country ruined and disrupted many Punjabi homes and families, and therefore, it took many years before the manuscript could receive due attention.
The manuscript was first checked by his son late Dr. Prem Nath and his admirer Lala Achint Ram, M. P. Later, the work of editing the manuscript was taken over by late Acharya Dr. Vishva Bandhu Ji, Padma Bhushan, Honorary Director, Vishveshvaranand Vedic Research Institute, Hoshiarpur, who entrusted the preliminary reading of the draft to Professor Siri Ram of Una, The second and final stage of editing was done personally by Acharya Vishva Bandhu Ji with the assistance of Dr. Mehta Vasishtha Dev Mohan, Reader, V. V. B. Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies, Sadhu Ashram. Dr. Vishva Bandhu Ji's labour on this autobiography over so many years was rendered entirely as he said "to fulfil my own spiritual obligation towards one who is no more in our midst and whom I held in the highest respects". The sudden demise of Acharya Dr. Vishva Bandhu Ji on 1st August, 1973, delayed the publication of this autobiography further. The final correction and typing of the draft was taken over by me in September 1973. This entailed considerable work in rearranging the text to make it suitable for publication in a book-form.
