पुस्तक परिचय ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित आधुनिक कन्नड़ भाषा के अप्रतिम साहित्यकार प्रो.यू.आर. अनन्तमूर्ति के उपन्यास 'भव' का यह नया संस्करण हिन्दी पाठकों के लिए प्रस्तुत है। अनन्तमूर्ति के समग्र कथा-लेखन में एक समाजविज्ञानी चिन्तक की मूल्यपरक सैद्धान्तिक दृढ़ता और कथाकार की सृजनात्मक संश्लिष्टता के बीच तमाम तरह के बहुआयामी संघर्ष विद्यमान हैं। दरअसल, उनकी प्रत्येक कथाकृति में अनेक दृष्टिकोण एक साथ उभरते हैं, जिनका सरलीकरण करके उस पर कोई एकपक्षीय धारणा बनाना असम्भव है। इस दृष्टि से उनका यह उपन्यास 'भव' भी इसका अपवाद नहीं है। जटिल रूपकों और चरित्रों के माध्यम से सिद्धान्त और कला के बीच चलता एक अन्तहीन संघर्ष 'भव' में भी पूरे वैचारिक साहस के साथ उपस्थित है। कहा जा सकता है कि विचार और शिल्प के स्तर पर 'भव' अनन्तमूर्ति की रचना-यात्रा का एक नया दिशा-संकेत भी है; साथ ही यह उपन्यास शायद उनकी गतिशील सृजनात्मकता के एक और नये पक्ष का उद्घाटन भी है।

लेखक परिचय ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित कन्नड़ के यशस्वी साहित्यकार प्रो.यू.आर. अनन्तमूर्ति का जन्म कर्नाटक के शिमोगा जिले के तीर्थहल्ली नगर में 1932 में हुआ। मैसूर विश्वविद्यालय से उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के बाद 1956 में वहीं पर अँग्रेजी विभाग में अध्यापन कार्य आरम्भ किया। बाद में बर्मिघम यूनिवर्सिटी (यू.के.) से पी-एच.डी. की उपाधि पायी। 1980 में मैसूर विश्वविद्यालय में अँग्रेजी के प्रोफ़ेसर, 1982 में शिवाजी विश्वविद्यालय में तथा 1985 में आयोवा विश्वविद्यालय में विज़िटिंग प्रोफ़ेसर रहे। महात्मा गाँधी विश्वविद्यालय, कोट्टयम के उपकुलपति, नेशनल बुक ट्रस्ट, नयी दिल्ली और साहित्य अकादेमी, नयी दिल्ली के अध्यक्ष रहे। अनन्तमूर्ति की 20 से अधिक कृतियाँ प्रकाशित हो चुकी हैं, जिनमें 'भव', 'संस्कार' 'भारतीपुर' 'अवस्थे' शीर्षक उपन्यासों के अलावा पाँच कथा-संग्रह, तीन काव्य-रचनाएँ, एक नाटक और पाँच समीक्षा-ग्रन्थ हैं। अनन्तमूर्ति की कृतियाँ विभिन्न भारतीय भाषाओं के अतिरिक्त फ्रेंच, रूसी, जर्मन, बुलगेरियन, अँग्रेजी आदि विश्व की प्रमुख भाषाओं में भी अनूदित हो चुकी हैं।
