Book Description
Preface

The Call of the Spirit' is a translation from Bengali of the conversations with Swami Akhandananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, as recorded by Swami Niramayananda, a disciple and personal attendant of the Swami. They cover the period from 1935 to 1937, and deal with numerous points connected with the theory and practice of spiritual life, besides several reminiscences of his Master, Sri Rama krishna. Swami Niramayananda is referred to in these conversations as 'the Devotee'.

Before this, we have published two other works of Swami Akhandananda, these being 'From Holy Wanderings to Service of God in Man' and 'In the Lap of the Himalayas'. They have found great favour with the readers of Ramakrishna Vivekananda literature, and we hope that this little book will also meet with the same enthusiastic reception.

The earlier volumes of the Swami are travelogues. They relate to his experience as a Parivrajaka (wandering ascetic) in Rajputana, Gujarat and the Himalayas. The present book, however, differs from them in that it contains the conversa tions with devotees and disciples, and are therefore of the nature of spiritual instructions. We have brought out this book in the hope that the instructions of such a great soul as the Swami will be of help to all spiritual aspirants.
