Book Description
Preface
The Andhra Pradesh Government Archaeological Museum has a priceless hoard of coins collected over a number of years mainly through the efforts of Dr. Yazdani who has spared neither pains nor money in collecting them from all over the country. The hoards of the punch marked coins, the coins of the Satavahanas, and the coins of the Vijayanagar kings are particularly interesting, not to speak of the coins of the Qutub Shahis, the Bahmanis, the Asaf Jahis and the Moghuls. There is in addition, a large hoard of nearly ten thousand inscribed copper coins of the Eastern Chalukyan dynasty. In addition there is a unique collection of six hundred coins of the Vishnukundins. Recent additions are the Amaravati hoard of eight thousand punch marked coins, and the Nalgonda hoard of a thousand Roman silver coins. All the dynasties of the kings that ruled the Andhra Pradesh area, are fully represented in these coin hoards.
