Everything is Made of Vedic Sounds explores how the silent ocean of consciousness, at the most fundamental level of creation, moves within itself, interacting with itself to create an infinitely dynamic structure of pure sound-Vedic sound that eternally hums within the silent ocean of pure consciousness.
This infinitely dynamic structure is referred to in the Vedic tradition as Veda, meaning pure knowledge. It represents the fundamental vibration that manifests as the universe. This book provides a comprehensive discussion on the dynamics of transformation from the silence of pure consciousness to the sound of Veda, and from sound to sound, culminating in the multitude of Vedic sounds. It includes an in-depth analysis of Maharishi's Apaurusheya Bhashya, the self-referential commentary of the Veda upon itself.
Everything is Made of Vedic Sounds also delves into how Vedic sounds can be applied across various aspects of life to enhance health, expand consciousness, and remove obstacles to human evolution.
For over 50 years, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi worked tirelessly to re-store the ancient Vedic knowledge to its proper understanding and effectiveness. During his time of teaching, he introduced Vedic technologies of consciousness for removing suffering and making higher consciousness available to the modern world. Maharishi explained that this ancient knowledge had been misinterpreted and misunderstood for many generations, but that in its pure and traditional form presented in a contemporary and scientific context it could alleviate the suffering of modern life and provide the means for bringing higher conscious-ness to anyone who wants it.
Maharishi began lecturing and teaching in 1957 and continued until 2008, each year bringing new understandings, new waves of knowledge, as the experiences of those practicing his techniques grew richer and more profound. In the early days, however, his message was simple and straightforward, as he spoke of a level of life underlying all that we see, hear, and touch, the source and essential ingredient of all creation: in-finite, unbounded Being.
At the time, the concept of Being was difficult for many, and I still re-member a frustrated voice at a lecture in 1970 exclaiming, "Being what? You have to be something..." But in his wisdom, Maharishi understood the value of simplicity, and the need for people to enjoy the direct experience of Being first, and then later dive into the more abstract philosophical concepts. These he gradually unveiled over the 52 years of his teaching.
As the earliest days passed, Maharishi began presenting many new layers of knowledge regarding the nature and application of Being, though his simple explanations from the early days remained profound and relevant -nothing that he taught in later years replaced or superseded his earlier expositions, and the fundamental themes remain the foundation for his science of consciousness.
In the following chapters, in the context of our discussions on Vedic sounds, we will see how Maharishi presented these layers, patiently waiting before revealing aspects of knowledge that seemed too advanced. This is the case with the knowledge of Vedic sounds, which he presented briefly in the early days and then developed substantially over the ensuing decades.
Let's begin with the first days of Maharishi's teaching, to lay the ground-work for his discussions of Vedic sounds where they come from and how they can be applied for success in life and the development of higher states of consciousness.
