I am very glad that my good friend, Sri Mathoor Krishnamurti is now coming out with an English version of his splendid work in Kannada on Gandhiji and his thoughts.
I had the great privilege in 1946-47 of being Gandhiji's 'Chaprasi' in Delhi when the Mahatma stayed in the Birla House. Those blissful days have remained etched in my memory.
Sri Mathoorji is a brilliant writer and has done full justice to Gandhiji in his writings. It is gratifying to note that these episodes are being serialized in a popular Kannada daily. It is rightly been named 'Gandhi Upanishad'.
After all, its well-known that Bapu lived like a Saint and all that has poured out in his writings are as valuable and as sacred as the tenets contained in the Upanishads. I am sure this serial will form an important addition to Gandhian thought.
It is equally laudable that these writings are being rendered into English. This surely will be welcome by millions of admirers of Gandhiji who are not familiar with Kannada. I am told that the translation has been undertaken by a journalist friend of Sri Mathoor, who is also a student of Gandhian thought.
I welcome this worthy addition to Gandhian literature and wish the venture every success it richly deserves.
