We have often heard that the Bhagavad Gita has solutions to all problems. Well, good to hear, but how do we locate these solutions in the Bhagavad Gita? For the unversed, the Gita itself appears like a philosophical maze. A typical response would be, "I asked for a solution to one problem and now you have thrown another problem at me - that of deciphering the Bhagavad Gita.
The claims about the Gita having solutions to all our problems is not a hyperbolic exaggeration. With careful and prayerful study over a period of time, the Bhagavad Gita starts revealing itself to the seeker and one can see the pathways in the maze of Gita, which hold solutions to one's problems. However, in order to assist and accelerate this process, we have come up with this book 'The Gita Companion' which we are hoping will serve you as your lifelong companion in the study of the Bhagavad Gita.
The whole idea behind this book is to facilitate your connection and application of the Bhagavad Gita. The book has two sections. The first section of the book provides a crisp section-wise breakup of each chapter of the Gita, with captions for each section and an acronym for the chapter which encapsulates the key teaching of that chapter. This chapter break-up can really help you gain perspective as to what is exactly transpiring in the particular chapter of the Gita which you are currently reading.
The second section is especially meant to help you apply the Gita. It explores the teachings of the Gita for transforming our negative emotional states into positive. Often when we encounter difficulties, struggles, obstacles, reversals, calamities etc. in our life, we are sucked into a whirlpool of negative feelings such as anxiety, fear, guilt, anger, stress etc. Such feelings not only affect our physical and mental health but even hamper our relationships and career. The longer this negativity lasts, the greater the resultant damage to the quality of our life. In this section, we have put together 18 such negative states of the mind, which correlate to struggles in our personal, interpersonal and professional life. We have presented verses and principles from the Gita which will help you transform these negative mental states into positive mental states, just the way Arjuna's negative mental state was transformed into a positive one after hearing the Gita. For each of the negative mental states, we have provided 3 shades of negative feelings. As an example, for the negative state of fear, the three shades are feeling fearful, scared and terrified. The Gita verses mentioned will help you transform these negative feelings into the positive mental state of courage.
Good company makes any journey relishable, even the long and often rough journey of life. Wishing you all the best for your journey of life with The Gita Companion as your constant companion.
