Book Description
About the Author

Shikashtakam Das was born on 11 September 1973 in Khopoli near Mumbai, in a Rajasthani Brahmin family deeply rooted in Krishna Consciousness. His mother, sister, and elder brother are initiated ISKCON devotees; his mother resides in Vrindavan, and his elder brother, HG Swaroop Damodar Das, is acclaimed worldwide for his soul-stirring kirtans. From childhood he was irresistibly drawn to devotional life, attending ISKCON programs at IIT Kanpur and the Radha Parthasarathy Temple in Delhi. A single Bhagavad Gita lecture by an American preacher pierced his heart and set him firmly on an unshakable path of devotion.

He served the Indian Air Force for 8 years as a fighter pilot, while also representing India in national-level lawn tennis. Yet, renouncing a prestigious career and secure income, he chose the higher calling of full-time service in ISKCON. A disciple of His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaj, he has been fully dedicated to the mission since 1998. Gifted with philosophical depth and scientific clarity, he has inspired thousands especially the youth-to embrace Krishna Consciousness. His seminars in universities, corporations, and industries across the world are practical, penetrating, and transformative. He is a member of the presidential board of ISKCON Nashik and as Director of the ISKCON Youth Forum. Each year he also spends three months in London, serving ISKCON's preaching mission. His journey from disciplined military service to fearless spiritual leadership-stands as a blazing example, inspiring others to live with devotion, dedication, and discernment in service to the Supreme Lord.

Preface

Since time immemorial, the Srimad Bhagavad-Gita has stood as a resplendent lighthouse, dispelling the dense darkness of ignorance and guiding countless souls like Arjuna, lost and bewildered across the turbulent ocean of material existence, bhavasagar. Shri Krishna, the Supreme Friend, Philosopher, and Guide, out of His causeless mercy, personally descended onto the battlefield of Kurukshetra to enlighten His devotee, Arjuna. The Lord's words were not impersonal instructions but the loving counsel of a well-wishing father, meant to awaken the eternal soul to it's forgotten relationship with Him. At times He encouraged Arjuna, at times He chastised him, yet always His purpose was singular-Arjuna's ultimate welfare: to rescue him from the illusion of bodily attachment and establish him in the highest principles of Dharma, safeguarding the spiritual destiny of humanity for all eternity.

The Bhagavad-Gita is not just a book, it is the ambrosial nectar of immortal truth flowing directly from the lotus lips of the Supreme Lord. Just as a single drop of amṛta from the celestial realms can grant immortality, a single verse of this divine song can revive the dying soul and awaken eternal life. The Vedas are compared to a wish-fulfiling cow, and the Gita is it's sweetest milk, nourishing the heart of the seeker with truth, courage, and devotion. It's words are not ordinary sound but shabda-brahma-spiritual vibration imbued with Krishna's own presence. When this nectar enters the heart through submissive hearing, the parched desert of material life blossoms with hope and joy. On the surface, the Gita is already beautiful and inspiring, yet it's depths conceal treasures that only a surrendered seeker can uncover.

Each verse is like a flawless pearl lying at the ocean floor, luminous and eternal, strung upon the invisible thread of Krishna's mercy, waiting to adorn the heart that dives deeply. Just as pearls are formed in the darkness of the ocean and are brought up only by those willing to risk the depths, so too the pearls of the Gita reveal themselves only to those who dive with faith and humility. This humble attempt to present the sacred message of the Srimad Bhagavad-Gita through Gitamṛta has been, over the years, the most purifying and uplifting journey of my life. To have been allowed-though most unworthy to serve as an instrument for sharing these eternal truths is a blessing beyond measure. The Bhagavad-Gita remains humanity's most authentic, practical, and timeless guide, transcending all boundaries of time, place, and circumstances.

May it's nectar awaken the lotus of devotion within your heart. Whatever fragrance of bhakti may blossom is solely by His causeless mercy, while the thorns of flaws that remain are solely my own.
