Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has stressed again and again the importance of Namasmarana and Sathsang in the Kaliyuga. He has given us this easy and wonderful method to approach the Divine.
Sai Bhajan Mandalis are usually the first point of contact with the Sai Organisation for the public. The melodious and bhakti filled prayers at these gatherings attract all persons and begin their transformation towards a spiritual life.
It is therefore necessary that there is uniformity in the Sai bhajan sessions everywhere with observance of proper discipline and dedication. It is with this objective that this guide has been prepared to enable the proper conduct of bhajans at all Sai Bhajan Mandalis and the Sathsangs.
The Sai Bhajans are Namavalis and are a sankeerthanam or collective singing. Here we need to strictly follow how Swami wants us to sing Bhajans. That is "karishye vachanam tava."
The last two versions of the 'Guidelines for Sai Bhajans' were brought out with the efforts of Sri. Pramod Sharma in 2001, and Sri. Suresh Mavinkurve and Sri. Ramesh Sahadeva in 2005. We acknowledge their immense contribution in formulating the procedures for Sai bhajans The current version of the guidelines is brought out with the efforts of the members of the National Bhajan Working group which was formed in 2012.
The salient points discussed in the recently held National Bhajan Master Trainers Workshop at Prasanthi Nilayam on 27th and 28th January 2024 have also been included in this version.
We pray to our beloved Swami to enable all participants at these Sath-sangs to realize the innate divinity in each one of them.
