Rarely has there been such a compendium that contains all varieties of sources like Epigraphy. Art and Architecture, Coins and Literature of this hinterland which has been sidetracked from the mainstream historical studies of the country. Many of hitherto unknown facts have come to light and, some of them have filled up hiatuses between times and set aside some traditional notions about the history and heritage of the land-Central-Eastern India - that constituted Kosala and Kantara of the days of yore. The Editor D.B Mishra a renowned history scholar, spared no pains to bring out the volume up-date for the benefit of the world of scholarship.
Dr. D. B. Mishra has taught history in various Government Colleges of Odisha for 35 Years. He has successfully supervised eight Ph.D dissertations, completed five Major Research Projects funded by UGC & ICHR, authored eight books both text and reference and contributed several articles to State, National and International Journals. The book Historical Landmarks of Central-Eastern India was originally conceived to be brought out in a single volume later it was considered to be voluminous and unwieldy in that case, so the idea came to divide it into two Parts Besides, the presentation of the two Parts would give a coherent narration. Part I containing the Texts and their illustrations, with historical analyses, of Source Materials recently discovered or comparatively unknown have already been brought to limelight. It has been published under the caption Corpora of Historical Materials, Part 1
But all the historical landmarks could not come in Part-1. A lot of other landmarks of history, of the period relating to source materials (4-20 century A.D) presented in Part-1, would have remained unreplenished, without reinterpretation of the old and known sources, pari passu, in the light of the new sources of history. An average reader even a scholar will not get a complete and coherent picture of the important historical developments of a hinterland of the country without both the Parts. So the landmark developments not included in Part I have been encapsulated in Part II, in three Units each Unit containing three Chapters for the entire period of known history of the land.
