This book is mainly intended to satisfy the needs of the First Year Arts students of a University. It fulfils the requirements of the Syllabus of the Bombay University for this subject. The work can also provide a fairly good idea of the subject to a general reader. An attempt has been made to make the narration simple and interesting. Greater emphasis is laid on development of culture in Ancient India. The book is divided into twenty chapters.
The book is based on the authoritative works of eminent Indian and Foreign Historians on the subject. A select Bibliography is added at the end.
