This book is a comprehensive, competent and scholarly treatise on the Dogra period in Jammu and Kashmir state. The present work is a doctoral book which was unanimously recommended for publication by the examiners. The period under study is, the most significant period as it marked the transition from medieval to the modern age in the history of Jammu and Kashmir State. A new framework of administrative structure was provided to the state by the British, most of which continues to function even in the present times. This book reveals many important aspects of Dogra rule like their administrative structure, land revenue system, rural indebtedness, money lending system, begaar, exploitative feudal system, revenue and expenditure of the state, judicial system, police, health, education etc. The book has at length discussed the British imperial policy towards Kashmir and their various reforms in land settlement, finance, judiciary, defence and departments of public welfare. The book has examined thoroughly how Kashmiri Muslims were exploited by their dogra rulers. The Muslim uprising of 1931 needs to be studied against the background of feudal nature of the Dogra administration. Dr. Mohammad Saleem Khan was born and educated at Srinagar. He got his M.A. (History) and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Kashmir. He has been teaching History in various government colleges of Jammu and Kashmir state. He has a number of research papers to his credit published in reputed journals of History.
