Preface
The origin of this book is a presentation I prepared for Korea where I was invited as an International Expert on Tea from India to the Conference of Federation of Korean Tea Masters Society. Seoul, during the period August 29-30, 2016. I presented a paper History of Tea, History and Development of Indian Tea through the Eye of Assam' in the Conference held at Gyeong Ju city. Korca, on August 29, 2016, attended by over five hundred Korean tea lovers. The paper was translated. into Korean language and published in the Souvenir of the conference. I was also requested to write another one with more details on Indian tea with the objective of translating it into Korean language and to be published in a small book form in Korea. The proposal was from Professor In-Oh Chung. Director, Korea International Tea Research Institute who was the brain behind the entire Conference presentations. I accepted his request and compiled one in a very short time to get it published before the Conference fulfilling the short deadline of submission. My friend, Mr. C. K. Chung. Vision Director and founder, Indo Korean Foundation, Seoul, had painstakingly translated the entire large write up History of Tea, History and Development of Indian Tea through the Eyes of Assam' into Korean language within a very short time in regular consultation with me. I lud also sent large number of related photographs to him for the purpose. We were confident that the book would be published before the Conference which, however, did not happen due to various technical problems. I hope the book in Korean language will be published soon. As an afterthought, I included a few more topics in the original write-up finding that it might be interesting to the general readers of the book. Hence, this book is an outcome of the original write up for a Korean book originally planned. The book outlines a brief history of tea, its development in India with particular emphasis on Assam tea. Some protions of this book had already been published in various journals, compilations of seminar presentationsand souvenirs.

The tea lovers of India and other countries of the world are always eager to know about the fascinating history of tea, history and development of Indian tea, and origin and development of tea in Assam in brief without going into much details and scientific analysis. During various seminars and workshops where I participated in Assam and other states of India, I had to constantly quench the thirst of the academicians also elaborating on facts of history and development of Indian tea. My planter friends of the tea industry of Assam also had constantly urged me to write a book on tea with the basic information and historical past tea. Popularity of tea among the masses of India is huge and the tea drinkers are always curious to know about tea, the various types of tea, tea growing areas of India, special characters of Indian tea and are increasingly becoming aware of its medicinal properties. A detailed write-up on chemical constituents of tea, medicinal and therapeutic properties, and nutritional values of tea based on scientific findings is included as an annexure mainly because of interest of the people on the subject, to creat awareness and to indicate some future interest and research priorities on it. I hope this small book with some basic information on tea will be liked by the tea lovers in general.

Mr.) P., EBH Publishers (India), Guwahati, has shown keen interest to publish the book when I discut it with him soon after my return from Korea. He is always supportive to my ventures, and my fir bok on tea The Tea Industry of Assam: Origin and Development was also published by him.
