Book Description

Preface

Meirav Harel's book, "How to Be Our Own Psychologists?" is an important and excellent book which will help anyone who reads it to live a more liberated and love- and life-filled life. In the book, Meirav sketches a map of life and our existence in this world. The reader is presented with a multi-dimensional map which can help him both understand his place in the world and in life and aid him to navigate his way to wherever he wishes to reach.

Meirav has developed an ordered system which she calls "the trilogy method." She presents it to the reader in clear and flowing language, scattering a great deal of humor into the instruction which makes the reading experience easier and lighter. The book also contains a great deal of information that expands and enriches the consciousness and awareness of the reader.

Suffering is an inseparable part of life, but pain is also a guide that can be used to release ourselves from burdensome beliefs and internal bonds so that we can live a life with reduced suffering. Meirav shows us, in this magnificent book, step-by-step, how to release ourselves from suffering and use it to develop to higher and better places.

Meirav assists the reader in developing an attitude of acceptance and compassion towards oneself and an under-standing that we are doing the best that we can at any given moment- "That is the best I can do as of this time point. Perhaps tomorrow I will be able to do more or the day after or next week and perhaps only in a year. Right now, this is my best" is one of the milestones which Meirav presents to the reader. There are many more of them.

Meirav shares her personal story with the reader detailing how she freed herself from addictions and other harmful and destructive patterns. By doing so she shows that it is indeed possible to change aspects of one's life and that every situation is an opportunity for growth and empowerment. Her exciting personal story, as well as many other examples interwoven in the book, grant the reader the feeling of authenticity and reliability. It is real and it works.

Meirav's book comes precisely at a time when our world is crying out for change and people are seeking alternative ways to cure their bodies and themselves. Many are undergoing a process of awakening and understanding that body and matter are only one pillar of who and what we are and that we are, in fact, much more than that. The understanding that the "external is a reflection of the internal" is critical to assuming responsibility for our lives and to the understanding that we are the only ones who can change our life and ourselves. Others can help, support, direct but we are the ones who need to make the change and do the work. Meirav's book does exactly that.

To summarize, I warmly recommend Meirav's book. It will contribute to anyone who reads it, whatever his worldview might be. I would also like to thank Meirav for her contribution through her writing.

With love,

Introduction

We all face challenges in our life. We all get slapped down by life. We all get stuck at some point or another in our lives. We get stuck in places that are not necessarily good for us. We get stuck with people that don't necessarily desire or promote our well-being (be they bosses, friends or acquaintances) or else we get stuck in situations which we don't know how to get out of and which we are, perhaps, even afraid to deal with. This is part of life and it happens to the best of us.

One of the reasons it might be difficult for us to pull free of where we are stuck is that too many emotions (both open and hidden) are involved. This emotional mix makes it difficult for us to consider matters clearly or rationally and sometimes even deliberately blinds us. If we go to a psychologist or a therapist, it is likely that he can provide us with the perspective which emotional detachment enables. Later on, depending on our level of exposure, maturity and preparedness, light may even be shed on several optional mechanisms of dealing with the situation, both on the emotional-psychological level and the mental-consciousness level, in order to help us extract ourselves from the obstruction where we are stuck and even leverage it for personal development.

What happens when we cannot afford professional therapy, whether due to either economic reasons (I can't afford it), unavailability (I don't have time for this), shame (there is no way that I am sharing personal information with a stranger), despair (none of this will help me / there is no way to change the situation), various other fears (there are so many charlatans in the field of therapy / I don't feel like opening up a Pandora's box) or reasons of non-awareness (this is just a waste of money / why even bother poking around in the past? What is done is done and over with).

The trilogy method for analyzing and extracting ourselves from these obstructions is a diagnostic tool I developed during my work in a clinic with people who desired to make a change in their lives or else cure themselves of diseases or chronic pains. It does not presume to be a substitute for professional treatment. However, if we cannot, at a given point in our lives, get the support of professional help, this system can certainly help us help ourselves -- even if only on the level of urgent "first aid" -- by providing us with a highly intellectual perspective that will enable us to examine the situation and interpret it from a slightly different perspective than we are familiar with. This perspective will enable us to make a change. It might even reverse how we think and feel about this situation. This change certainly has the power to initiate movement towards moving past the obstruction where we are stuck.
