Book Description

About the Book I cannot possibly forget to add that, in recent years, there has been an eloquent call in India to resuscitate the spirit of Dharma in all our spheres of work, including politics and industry, a call which has unfortunately gone unheeded. I refer to the life-work of Mahatma Gandhi, who sought to live his life and work at the national level guided solely by Indian values. Dharma, according to him, was what "is enjoined by the holy books, followed by the sages, interpreted by the learned, and which appeals to the heart" (Harijan 1946, 10, 41, p.401). He empha-sized: "Do not mix up religion and ethics. I believe that fundamental ethics is common to all religions. Teaching of such ethics is undoubtedly a fun the state"(ibid, 1947, 11, 8 p.76) and this fundamental ethics was for him the conscience "which reveals itself daily to every human being, but we shut our ears to the still small voice." (Young India, 25, 5, 21 p.162).

Preface Essential Values in Indian Culture for Management(of self and otherwise) is a most timely treatise prepared by Prof. S.K.Ramachandra Rao, one of our most celebrated scholars and thinkers of the day. When the individual, the society and the country feel confused at the cross-roads of value systems, the present treatise comes in handy as a signal post, indicating the most needed direction. Prof. S.K.Ramachandra Rao has investigated the many perspectives of the vital theme with dedication, in depth research and has put the document in very simple language. Bhavan's Gandhi Centre of Science and Human Values is indeed most grateful to the scholar and feels convinced that the treatise would be widely read for practical application. The Centre is also beholden to Justice Dr. M.Rama Jois, Prof. S.R.Rohidekar and Prof. Sandeep Shastri for their articles related to Human Rights and values which are incorporated in the Appendix of this book 'Human Values in Indian Culture for Management'. I would be failing in my duty if I do not mention Shri B.S.Gundu Rao for the due diligent work of proof- reading of this book. I thank Smt. H.V.Geetha for the DTP and M/s.
