Book Description

Foreword

Language Department. Punjab takes immense pleasure and feels blessed to bring out yet another roprint of the book "Hymns Of Guru Nanak" on the auspicious occasion of 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev H. The book was which was earlier published in the year 1972. The humble effort behind this publication is to disseminate the Word & Teachings of Guru Nanak Sahih who was a great philosopher, poet, traveler, social leveler, mass communicator and an advocate of humanism: I hope that this publication will prove to be a great source of enligtucsment, spiritual healing, guidance & motivation for scholars. Literary enthusiasts, seekers of truth as well as common masses. For each Hymn, along with Punjabi translation the English version is also provided for those who are not well-versed in Punjabi language.

In this collection of Guru Nanak's finest devotional poems, the fifteenth century founder of the Sikh religion, shows the way to self-realization through love, devotion, and service to mankind and God. The Hymns contained in this book, even today conveys a direct and strong message as they did when they were first composed. Guru Nanak Sahib's divine verses are embodiment of social justice, religious tolerance & universal brotherhood & peace. He infused a new spirit and rekindled the inactive divine potentialities in mankind. These Hymns contain various aspects of life in metaphorical form, which enables one to experience life from a different point of view. His egalitarian practices directly challenged the untouchability and the caste system and continue to do so. His ideaology of Langar, Pangat & Sangat glorifies His message of social harmony for the entire mankind irrespective of caste, creed, gender & religion. A famous saying about Guru Sahib testifies His persona.
