About the Book The book "India and her Neighbours" provides a comprehensive overview of various aspects related to India's geography, history, culture, and its relationships with neighboring countries. It covers topics ranging from physical features, climate, flora, and fauna to minerals, the diverse population, and early historical accounts. Detailed accounts of significant dynasties, rulers, and events in India's history, including the Mogul and British rule, are provided. The book also highlights remarkable women of India and explores British colonial expansion, trade, finance, internal and external communications, and India's relations with neighboring nations such as Afghanistan, Persia, Tibet, Nepal, Burma, and others, concluding with insights into territories like Malay Peninsula, Java, and Ceylon.

About the Author William Patrick Andrew (c.1807-1887), a Scottish railway director, played a key role in India's railway development. He founded the Scinde Railway Company in 1855, which later merged with other railways to form the Scinde, Punjaub & Delhi Railway in 1870. Andrew advocated for strategic railway lines, including to the Bolan and Khyber Passes. He pushed for a wider gauge for Indian railways, leading to a resolution by the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1873. Andrew's contributions earned him a knighthood in 1882. His insights are detailed in his work "India and Her Neighbours."
