About The Book

The basic importance of world peace for the survival of mankind is necessarily to be realized by every sensible person. Atomic weapons have posed terrible threat of annihilation to mankind. It is estimated that 20,000 megaton atom bombs have already been manufactured in our modern world while only one hundred megaton atom bombs are sufficient to reduce this earth to ashes. Wasting of money on preparation of human destruction should be used for the betterment of human happiness. Even at present there are some nations which are genuinely interested in peace. India's love for peace is rooted in its past.

The present work is inspired by this very objective. It underlines the funda-mental importance of world-peace in its Introduction. Further it proceeds to discuss the Basis of Peace and finally presents the very utterances of Lord Sri Krishna, Yogi Aurobindo, M. K. Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Radha-Krishnan and Morarji Desai (when he was the Prime Minister of India.)

Intelligent readers shall very easily understand how and why there is an unbroken continuity of peace thought in India, after perusing the present volume. The volume also contains an appendix which contains the thought from three wisemen of the West i.e. Waltaire, Kant and Tolstoy.

Preface

Every sensible person should realize the basic importance of World Peace for the survival of mankind. The talk about the necessity of World Peace does not mean indulging in any religious, old-fashioned and meaningless platitude. Atomic weapons have presented a real threat of annihilation to man-kind. It has been estimated that our modern world has already manufactured more than twenty thousand megaton atom bombs, while only one hundred megaton atom bombs are sufficient to reduce this earth to ashes.

It is the height of human foolishness that it is wasting that money on preparing weapons of human destruction, which should be used for the betterment of human happiness and re-construction. Three-fourth of mankind is still living in a very pitiable condition. Millions of people are still half-clad and half-fed. The problems of poverty and ill-health are so wide-spread that they need human effort lasting for at least one hundred years even in this age of scientific advancement to solve them. Merely a chanting of terms like democracy and communism cannot bring concrete relief to mankind. And yet, people all over the world are being misled in the names of blind nationalism and irrational religion to prepare for the sepulture of humanity.

It is pathetic that despite many nuclear accidents, the nations have not learnt any lesson. It has been stated that the U.S.A. had some 2300 nuclear accidents from 1979 to 1986. Recently an accident took place at the Chernobyl nuclear plant at Ukraine in Russia. This accident happened on 29th April, 1986 causing huge loss of money and men.

It is a historical fact that the institution of state was invented by man for the protection of human society. But at present many states have forgotten this objective and revel in manufacturing deadly arms.

Happily, there are some nations even at present which are genuinely interested in the maintenance of peace. India is the foremost nation in this category. India's love for peace is rooted in its past. It loved and preached the gospel of love and amity right from the days of the Vedas and Upanishads. Only that nation can love peace which has a clear perception of spirituality. Manu, the supreme law-giver of Hinduism, had stated that the conduct of every Indian should be so high that people of other nations may draw inspiration from it.
