This book was carried out with a objective to bring forward important changes in the various aspects of North Indian Classical dance form, Kathak. The repertoire of the dance form has gone through many changes due to the impact of Globalization and Modernization of present modern set up. Keeping this in mind, the research work has been compiled in five chapters after a thorough review of literature on the subject and after collecting data from various sources by following a systematic research methodology. This included taking interviews of various 'Gharanedar' and 'New Generation' artiste who have contributed in the development of the dance form as well as by observing stage performances of Kathak artistes in various classical dance festivals.
After giving a detailed discussion about. the social, political, historical and cultural background of Kathak from the Vedic to the British Era and the development of the dance form in the Pre and Post Independent Era, it has been delineated as to how Kathak was preserved, reinvented, re- modified and promoted by various important artistes, government institutions and organisations of India. Also, the impact of Globalization on Kathak and it's various aspects like Technique, Music, Literature and Style of Presentation have been thoroughly analyzed and discussed with pictorial evidences and relevant literary sources.
The research has come out with the findings that there have been drastic changes in the various aspects of Kathak like Technique, Literature, Music and Style of Presentation in the Modern Era under the impact of Globalization by both the 'Gharanedar' and 'New Generation' artists which has further helped in the enrichment of the dance form.
Dr. Mansi Saxena, Phd in Kathak and is presently working as Assistant Professor of Kathak in post graduate government college for girls in Chandigarh. A well known Kathak artist, she has completed her Post diploma from Kathak Kendra, under the guidance of Pt. Rajendra Gangnani ji. Her initial training in Kathak was done in Patiala by Dr. Jagmohan Sharma ji and in the later years, she has worked as a repertory artist with Smt. Aditi Mangaldas ji and Smt. Shovana Narayan ji in Delhi. She has performed in various prestigious festivals in Japan, Australia, England, Srilanka, Dubai.
Academically, she has been a Gold medalist in Kathak (Masters) from Punjabi University, Patiala. She has also been awarded with various prestigious awards like Rajendra Deep Samana (Calcutta), Vishesh Pragati Samman (Chandigarh), Nritya Mani Award (Moradabad) etc. She has also been a recipient of National Scholarship in Kathak (2004) and National Fellowship in Kathak (2016-17) from Ministry of Culture, Delhi.
