Jainism played an important role in the political and social life of the people in the Deccan from the earliest time to the Thirteenth Century A.D. But during the Vijayanagara period the society was of complex nature in its religious composition. There were various sects, which were actively and competitively practiced. True to its nature and inherent ideas enshrined in the Indian culture, in general there was religious harmony among the people of various sects like the Vaishnava, Saiva, Veerasaiva, Jaina etc. The present work is an attempt to present the Jainism and Jaina Art and Architecture at Vijayanagara.
The work was for doctoral thesis but owing to certain unavoidable reasons forced to bring out in the form of this publication.
