In 1957, our Institute published a work entitled Spiritual Talks, being a collection of extracts arranged under thirty-six topical titles, from the late Swami Sri Ananda Acharya's four major works, to wit, Karlima Rani, Kalkaram, Arctic Swallows and Yoga of Conquest. These extracts effectively served the purpose of introducing to the Indian readers the spiritually attuned writings of that Indian sage who had chosen to live and work during the latter half of his life in far off Norway. Every page of his voluminous writings is redolent with the lofty idealism of the Indian sages of yore. We are glad that our Institute has now been able to bring out some of the works of the Swami Ji in their full form. It is to be hoped that the Institute will be able to continue its efforts in the direction of publishing the remaining works of the Swami Ji which, as available in English, number about two dozen. Indeed, it is in view of this objective that the Institute has decided to start a new spiritual cultural series, under the caption of Sri Ananda Acharya Universal Series and gradually to issue the works of the Swami Ji as separate volumes in this Series.
I have great pleasure in mentioning here that Mr. Einar Beer of Norway has taken a very helpful interest in the above matter. As a most devoted disciple of the Swami Ji, Mr. Beer remained very close to him during his lifetime and, after his death, has continued to do his utmost towards spreading his Master's divine message by popularising his writings.
In his letter dated February 11, 1970, Mr. Beer wrote to us as follows: "You will have understood that my chief aim in life is to preserve and get printed and distributed the wonderful writings of the Swami Sri Ananda Acharya who came to Norway in 1914 and lived here up to 8th May, 1945 (when he passed away). He wrote a great many books, most of which are out of print. To get them all re-published and to get his last messages-poems, revelations of eternal truth and beauty to preserve these and bring them out to mankind has been my great hope and endeavour." Further on, after referring to a Norwegian friend of his having enabled him, through financial help, to take up the publication of the Swami Ji's book Life and Nirvana, he proposed to us that he might send to us a few hundred copies of that book so that we might sell the same in India and, instead of sending any money to him in Norway, credit the entire sale proceeds to a separate Fund to be utilised by the Institute towards publishing some other works of the Swami Ji. As this proposal was in consonance with the aims and objects of our Institute in respect of the proper interpretation and wide promulgation of the universal teachings of the ancient Indian sagas, we were, naturally, too glad to accept this proposal and assured Mr. Beer that we would be extending our full co-operation in furthering the said objective. Mr. Beer has since been pleased to send us, in the first instance. 200 copies of the said publication and has contributed one half of the cost of production of the present book, Karlima Rani or Lectures on Yoga with which, we have the pleasure to announce, our above-mentioned Sri Ananda Acharya Universal Series is being started.
