Music is universal. It does not have any barrier whatsoever. It does not discriminate like caste, differences, lower, upper, poor and rich. Anyone can learn music at any age. Music is an cultural bridge that unites the world.
I have been dreaming to write a book about karnatak music. Though many of my articles were published in renowned music magazines. The publishing a book was not possible. My only book published was my Ph.D thesis by the University of Mysore in 1982. As I gave more interest in giving vocal concerts, my dream did not come true, but I was thinking on musicology always.
Sri. Manasa of TanuMana Prakashana approached me and said he would publish the books on music. I wrote a book titled 'Karnataka Shastriya Sangeetha-Volume-1 in 2004 in kannada. That book coverd syllabus of Karnataka Secondary board's Junior exams, the pre-university music exams and also university of Mysore, Diploma in music exams. This book in kannada has seen six publications. It is Sri Manasa, of TanuMana prakashana, who brought my books to the music world, I am highly indebted to him.
I was getting enquiries and requests by the Junior music students who learn music in english language, to write this book in English. My senior student Vidushi. Smitha Srikiran, Renowned Flutist, came forward to translate my book. She translated the theory portion of the book while I translated the practical portion. I thank immensely Vid. Smitha Srikiran in supporting me in bringing out this book.
If I have made any liittle name in the field of music it is only due to the my mother late smt.savitramma who inspired me and my father and Guru Vidwan. RK.Narayanaswamy who taught me the music. Later my elder brother, elder of Rudrapatnam Borthers, Vidwan.RN.Thyagarajan guided me further.
After my marriage my husband Er,MK.Seetharam, supported me in all respects like correcting the articles and proof reading of my books. My sons chi. Sughosh and Chi.Sumanth did not bother while writing the books.
My reverential pranams to parents late smt.Savitramma, father, Guru Vidwan RK.Narayana Swamy and "Padmashri' Vidwan R.N. Thagarajan.
I sincerely thank my family members for their support Writing a book on music may be easy but printing is highly difficult, Tanu Mana prakashana has done it very successfully through Sri Basavaraj, Keerthana Graphics, Mysore. I thank all the staff for their neat work.. I thank each and everyone who have helped me directly or indirectly.
I hope this book will also be received with the same enthusiasm by the teachers of music, students and music lovers as my earlier books.
