After receiving initiation of the Ram mantra from his father, Vittal Rao (as he was known then), renounced the worldly life at the age of 38 and wandered as a mendicant Sadhu from far South to the Himalayas with God as his only refuge and guide. Having attained God-realization, Swami Ramdas (endearingly called by devotees as Papa) shared his universal vision with everyone around.
I know I am the least fitted of all to write a foreword to the life-sketch of Krishnabai, still it has pleased Beloved Swamiji to pick me out to do it.
This beautiful though short sketch from the worthy pen of the Swamiji, records the life of a seraphic soul who combines at once the divinity of the Mother with that of a radiant child of God— pure, innocent and ever blissful. The life of Mother Krishnabai is too sweet and beautiful — it is a privilege and a joy to come into her sweet contact. Selfless service of humanity has been the sole passion of her life. It is given to very few people to recognize the greatness of such pure souls as the Mother. What then can my ignorant self write about her? The only thing I can do is to offer the love and homage of my heart at the blessed feet of Krishna bai.
