Book Description
Back of the Book
Of all English translations, this is precise and to the point. This translation is quite distinct from the rest since it retains the brevity while capturing the spirit of the original.

"Dr.R. Natarajan, a well acknowledged writer, in Tamil and in English for over four decades, has successfully done it first in Tamil and now in English.

The toughest task in such translation is to render the culture specific parts of the original in a way that the pith of the original message comes out clearly and prominently.

That Dr. Natarajan has achieved this difficult task is a tribute to his deep understanding of the text as well as his ability to paraphrase its meaning with consummate felicity".

Foreword
Indian ethos down the ages placed strong emphasis on Dharma or Righteousness as the guiding force of human actions. From time to time texts were written to guide humans to live in conformity with that ideal. Of all such texts, Thirukkural has the pride of place since nothing can equal its profundity and brevity.

Introduction
The Kural, a cavalcade of couplets, is an ancient Indian ethical text written by poet Tiruvalluvar about 21 centuries ago. 'Tiru' is an honorific prefix to names of persons, places and sacred texts. Hence the poet Valluvar is called Thiruvalluvar, the Kural is called Thiru-Kural.
