The present study represents a modest attempt at analysing the Language of the Taittirtya Brahmaņa, the oldest Brähmanical text. The language of this ancient Br. is full of great interests for the linguists and the Sanskrit scholars. It presents the earliest phase of the prose literature of Sanskrit.
I am highly grateful to late Prof. Kundan Lal Sharma, formerly Head of Sans. Deptt., S. D. College, Muzaffar Nagar. He was my supervisor and guide. The Tathagata Printing Press, Ghaziabad deserves all praise in carrying through this work satisfactorily in spite of unprecedented difficulties. I am grateful to all those whose works I have consulted and those who have directly or indirectly helped me in collection or understanding of the relevant material.
Lastly, it will also be proper to place on record the pains taken by my wife Smt. Pushpa Devi, who besides performing all the daily chores of a household; arranged and prepared numerous lists of words of the Brahmana.
