Preface

Narada is an ubiquitous and unique Rsi. He is mentioned in the Vedas, Brahmasutras, Upanisads, Mahabharata and Puranas. He is described as a trouble-shooter and a back-biter as also a divine sage - the embodiment of righteousness and pathfinder for moksa, liberation. The eternal truths and quest for reality are presented through symbolic images, allegories, legends and interesting stories. All subjects related to living beings and the world around them are discussed by him or in the works associated with his name. He drew attention to the need of investigation on the extent of the world (and its resources) before drawing plans for population growth. Discussions on widely diverse subjects are associated with him, such as the total devotion to Visnu, the Supreme Being, manusmriti, moksa- dharma and yoga on the one hand and music, health, astronomy and legal codes on the other hand. Vyasa, the author of Vedas, Brahma-Sutra, Mahabharata and Puranas, was Narada's student. Sri Krsna said: "I am Narada among the Divine Sages". This statement places Narada in the category of the Greatest Divine sage, as Sri Krsna is the embodiment of the Supreme Being.
