Book Description
About the Book
This book is a collection of six descriptive studies relating to little known tribal speeches.

Apart from giving descriptive analysis of Juang (a Munda language of the Austro-Asiatic family) and the impact of its contact with Indo-Aryan, the present collection has portrayed the linguistic picture of some Indo-Aryan speaking tribal and semitribal communities, viz., Hill Kharia, Lodha, Mal-Pahariya, Bhuyan and Pahariya, which have been undergoing aryanisation through their symbiotic relationship with the people of the sanskritic culture.

As these studies have direct bearing on the researches in the field of Austro-Asiatic and Indo- Aryan linguistics and relevance for the problem of tribal accul- turation, linguists as well as an- thropologists will find this book useful in their respective fields.

Preface
Six papers on tribal speeches are compiled in this collec- tion. All these papers were written separately on the basis of field studies made in sixties. The speeches described here, except Juang, genetically belong to the Indo-Aryan group of languages and the descriptions of these speeches form a part of the project on the study of Indo-Aryan tribal dialects. The vocabularies of Kharia Thar, Mal-Pahariya, Lodha, Ghatoali and Pahariya have not been presented separately' along with the respective descriptions, because we had a plan to make a separate etymological dictionary of Indo-Aryan tribal dialects while the papers were being written.
