Book Description
About the Book
This book is an anthology of anecdotes about MAHATMA, The Sage of the Scientific Age. A Hundred Faces of Gandhiji is culled out from various sources to present a mosaic of his life. The book is of particular significance now, when people have chosen Gandhiji as the Man of the 'Twentieth Century'.

Foreword
Bhavan's Gandhi Centre of Science and Human Values has become increasingly popular with the students community because of its researched publications on culture and values. The central theme of the publication project is Gandhian wisdom on various issues of contemporary relevance. The book "MAHATMA" is authored by Prof. Krishnaswamy a Gandhian and Retd. Professor at DRDO. The author says that this book is an anecdotal biography of Mahatma culled from various sources. ...Gandhiji's autobiography "The Story of My Experiments with Truth" is itself a most interesting collection of incidents from this very eventful life. It is available to the public in a cheap edition. It has sold in hundreds of thousands of copies, in several languages. Bapuji is a master story-teller and keeps the reader spell-bound till he reaches the end of the book. But anybody who likes to have an insight into Mahatma's life must read the Autobiography... ...It was the crucial night on Pietermaritzburg (South Africa) Railway Station, in 1893 that gave a new turn to Gandhi's life. The humiliating experience of that night, of being thrown out of his railway compartment, in spite of his possessing a valid first class ticket, just because a white passenger did not fancy his spending the night in the same railway bogey with a 'coolie' passenger... -Bapu decided to fight for the rights - Gandhiji forged the powerful weapon of satyagraha which changed the course of the history of the world, as it changed the character of the man who wielded it...

Preface
Bharataratna Shri C.Subramaniam referred to Gandhiji as 'The Sage of the Scientific Age', a most apt epitome of one, who has been hailed as 'The Man of the Millennium. Gandhiji was, in fact, never against science and technology in its strides. If it was in the service of the common man, the poor, the down-trodden, the illiterate and the superstitious. The present book "MAHATMA" researched by Prof. N.Krishnaswamy, himself a scientist and well-known Gandhian scholar. Intents to throw light on many faces of the Master, some of them known, and many, unknown. In fact, the little literary pictures of Gandhiji, articulated by Prof. Krishnaswamy, are arresting and easy to read. The young, in particular, should find the book informative and inspiring. I thank Prof. Krishnaswamy for writing this book for the Gandhi Centre of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and supporting its publication.
