About the Author

Thomas Thornville Cooper (1839-1878) was an English traveller and political agent in Burma, began his career in Australia and India. In 1861, he explored Burma, studying the Burmese language. In 1869, attempting to enter China from Assam, he faced opposition and had to turn back. Appointed by the India Office in 1876, Cooper served in Bhamo.
