कविता के संबंध में जब सोचता हूँ सर्वप्रथम Charles Baudelaire के निम्नलिखित शब्द याद आते हैं "Always be a poet, even in prose"। विश्वविख्यात वैज्ञानिक Albert Einstein ने कहा है कि "True sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination"। "Poetry is the spontaneous flow of powerful feelings. It takes Its origin from emotions recollected in tranquility". -William Wordsworth.
A 'Poetry above all, is an approach to the truth of feeling a fine poem will seize your imagination intellectually- that is when you reach it, you reach it intellectually too but the way is through emotions, through what we will call feelings' - Muriel Ruckeyser.
"Poetry is a sensitive and imaginative way of expanding our comprehension of the life we face and it can be fruitful to read some of my poems in that way. It is not only the experiential world but also the imaginative world that combine to form a total life reality. I have never tried to force any kind of 'poetics' on my poems, but rather let them freely determine their own 'form' and 'content'. Marx's view that 'form' is the form of its 'content', or the old Sanskrit quote of Jagannath (17th c.) "shabardthau-sahitau-kavyum" (poetry is a pleasant fusion of word-and-meaning) essentially sum up for me a working definition of poetical practice."
'Poetry is by nature a free art'
-Excerpts from an interview with Kunwar Narain September 1, 2005
"Poetry is the only life got, the only work done, the only pure product and free labor of man, performed only when he has put all the world under his feet, and conquered the last of his foes"
Henry David Thoreau
'Life is, I am sure, made of poetry' - Jorge Luis Borges
"I do not wish to flee life,
I wish to connect to it to jolt it
on its imaginary axle
at the very point where
it is most vulnerable to poetry "
-Kunwar Narain
