There are many Odia classics that are translated into Sanskrit. However, the translation of Yajnaseni excellently done in Sanskrit by Professor Bhagirathi Nanda has a special importance. This is because, the author of the Odia Yajnaseni is none other than Dr. Pratibha Ray, the famous creative writer, who is translated world-wide. As the author of Odia novels, stories, travelogues etc. she has been honoured with almost all lucrative and highly prestigious awards like Murtidevi Award (1991) and Jnanapitha Award (2011) and has been deeply loved by the readers of Odisha. On the other hand, Prof Nanda, who teaches Sanskrit in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, has been the recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award (2012) for his Sanskrit rendering of Yajnaseni.
The intention in our present effort is to put forth the original and Sanskrit rendering of Yajnaseni together in an analytical articulation through the norms of stylistics and translation studies. The authors and thinkers whose help has been taken to make this book are respectfully mentioned in the Bibliography. We also lovingly utter the names of Sri Krishnapada Pal, Smt. Anima Pal, Sri Paresh Nath Ghosh, Smt. Parbati Ghosh and Smt. Pratyusha Ghosh who have variously inspired us in the preparation of the present book.
We are also thankful to the respected faculty members of the Department of Sanskrit, Pali & Prakrit and also to the staff members of the Central Library, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, for their substantial help in the ideation and work out of the book.
